the Last of the Dashkin

"I'd hate to be a stickler"

date: December 15, 2009

...but isn't there a very humanoid thing in the Waterlollies Brakenwood video? That purplish-colored guy gathering the waterlollies in the lake looked and sounded even more human-esque than Bitey. He even raises a hand and goes "Heyyy!" when Bitey picks up his bowl of lollies. So, if there are things that look and act less animalistic than Bitey, how's he the last non-animal being?

Well, whatever. Like I said, I don't wanna be a jerk about it. Still an awesome set of flashes. I just hope adding depth to the story won't screw it up any. It's not like anyone is used to seeing wizards popping up in the series.

Author's Response:

I never said he was the last non-animal being.. he's the last of his kind ;)
The witch is also the last of her kind. The Auld Sage (big blue guy) is too and the mystery of it all will be revealed eventually.

"not so great"

It LOOKed good. Nice animations and all, but just because it looks impressive doesn't mean jack.

The gameplay is pretty weak. Very slow moving and unimaginative. You basically just walk forward and hit A. The only technique to the game is walking around in circles to make sure the monster gradually making its way around to your backside doesn't sandwich you with the one you're facing.

Oh, and jumping in the air while attacking makes enemies slide back further, but it takes too long to do for it to actually be very useful.

Absolutely nothing unexpected or interesting occurs throughout the entire game at any point of any of the three levels. After you've seen the three varieties of each monster, that's all the thrill you get.

I thought it was extremely plain, and I'm not just saying that to be cynical. I don't see how it got tens and nines by several others. It didn't hold my interest for more than ten minutes, and those were minutes of me searching for a reason to like the game.

"Worth playing"

submission: Level Up!

Was pretty fun.

Like the author noted, the ending is a bit lame and unimaginative, though, especially for a game that seemed pretty unique. Was a bit of a let down. I understand it's more about the gameplay than the storyline, but the entire game seemed to revolve around a mystery that kind've kept you playing in order to find out.

I liked how the game implemented abilities, but there were two that were completely pointless. One of them being the RADAR ability. That little radar just flies away in some general direction and remains out of the screen for thirty seconds on-end before flying back to you to do it over again, as if expecting you to fly up into the air to catch up with it. It didn't help me in the least.

The second useless ability is the DASH. It would be more useful if you were able to stop it before running into a wall. I mean, you waste as much time being stunned as it would have taken you just to walk to your destination, and there's no long-flat areas in the game, so, 90% of the time, you wind up just hitting a wall or step. The only time it's useful is as a tactic during the fight against the nightmare, but even then the nightmare can be beat just as easily without it.

I think this game was fun and definitely has potential. Hopefully the second one isn't just a remake of the first in a different level. A little more bells and whistles (and a more dynamic storyline), and this game could be pretty great, I think.

Really mellow, consdering it's 80's inspired, but very cool, nonetheless. I likes it a lot.

Cereal kill - Great minds

"whoaz"

date: December 18, 2009

Hahaha!
Can't say I'd put this into my mp3 player, but it's...pretty funny. Serves its purpose. Two rival serial killers? Don't hear too many tunes like this.

Cool song, you dummeh. Loops perfectly, too, by the way.

"Boom"

Awesome. If you close your eyes and imagine yourself in a predicament in which you are helplessly awaiting the bomb's drop, you can feel your heart beat quicker to this song.

The depressing and slow chimes mixed with the fast tick-tick-ticking in the background make it both gloomy and anxious at the same time. And, of course, the sirens, voice track and vintage "poor quality" track was a perfecting touch that sealed the song's specific statement about a looming nuclear attack.
